49ers’ Dwight Clark an inspiration for Clemson in CFP national championship

There are sentiments everywhere, if you look carefully enough, and the Clemson Tigers will have a special one for San Francisco 49ers fans when they square off against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday, Jan. 7 during the College Football Playoff National Championship game at Levi’s Stadium.

Niners historians should know the connection.

The late Dwight Clark, San Francisco’s famed wide receiver responsible for “The Catch” in the 1982 NFC Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys, was a Clemson alum. Clark’s tenure in college wasn’t particularly eye-popping, as he caught just 33 passes for 571 yards and three touchdowns during his three-plus years there.
