Although classified as “unofficial,” the 49ers had no surprises in their initial depth for Monday night’s season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
Blaine Gabbert is the No. 1 quarterback, followed by Colin Kaepernick and Christian Ponder, which is the order coach Chip Kelly announced on Saturday.
Neither of the 49ers’ first-round draft picks this year are in the starting units. Instead, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (No. 7 overall) and left guard Joshua Garnett (No. 28) are listed as second string.

Buckner could elevate to the top unit, however, if projected starter Quinton Dial can’t play because of a sprained knee.
