It took about 72 hours for 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel to go from demanding more of the ball to issuing mea culpas in the team locker room.
Samuel stood in front of reporters after Thursday’s 12-6 loss to the Rams and took accountability for his worst performance of the season, which came at perhaps the worst possible time. The defeat put the Niners’ playoff odds at less than 1%, according to NFL.com, turning their soon-to-be-official elimination from postseason contention into a mere formality. On top of that, Samuel had just spent the week complaining about not getting enough touches, despite being one of the team’s leaders in that statistic.
