SANTA CLARA — Linebacker Malcolm Smith’s injury-laden tenure with the 49ers won’t continue into a third season.
Smith was released ahead Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s exhibition finale against the Los Angeles Chargers and in anticipation of Saturday’s mandatory cutdown to a 53-man roster.
