Offensive lineman Zane Beadles, who never worked out as planned after signing with the 49ers two years ago, was released on Monday, the team announced.
In cutting Beadles before the final season of the 3-year, $9.75 million deal he signed after leaving the Jaguars, the 49ers have cleared $3.5 million in cap space.
After struggling as the 49ers’ starting left guard in 2016 (Pro Football Focus rated him the team’s worst lineman), the 31-year-old Beadles was an expensive insurance policy last season. He played all 16 games, starting one at left guard and four at right tackle, without distinguishing himself.
