Air quality looks like it won't derail the San Francisco 49ers season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, but it could derail the start of the season for an important piece of the Niners' offense.
According to a report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Tevin Coleman's availability for San Francisco's 1:25 p.m. kickoff is still uncertain due to a pre-existing health condition for Coleman that could be exacerbated by deteriorated air quality from fires raging across the West Coast.
The air quality index as of this writing in Santa Clara was a 172, placing it in the "Unhealthy" category, which comes with the following warnings: "Avoid strenuous outdoor activities," "Keep outdoor activities short," and "Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them," according to airnow.
