49ers’ Colin Kaepernick joined by Eric Reid during anthem

SAN DIEGO - Colin Kaepernick didn’t kneel alone.

The 49ers quarterback was joined by a teammate, safety Eric Reid, in not standing during the national anthem Thursday night before the preseason finale against the Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium.

Kaepernick and Reid, who was not in uniform, both knelt on the sideline alongside their standing teammates as Petty Officer 1st Class Steve Powell from the U.S. Navy sang the anthem on “Salute to the Military Night.”

After the anthem was over, Kaepernick and Reid exchanged a hug as the crowd erupted into a high-decibel chant of “USA.
