The San Francisco 49ers fell to the Arizona Cardinals, though they made things a whole lot closer than anyone expected. Arizona needed a last-minute field goal to take the lead and the win after a Colin Kaepernick touchdown in the final two minutes tied the game for the 49ers.
But the defense, which struggled throughout the game but had started to show some life in the third quarter, was unable to halt the Cardinals as they marched down the field with an effective two-minute drill (and all three timeouts). The field goal, of 34 yards, was an easy prospect for the Cardinals and they took the lead and the win as time expired.
