SANTA CLARA – The “Rookie Hype Machine” made its debut for practice on Friday to rave reviews.
During practices that are open to the public at the 49ers' training facility, a rookie is assigned the task of pumping up the crowd's energy level. Approximately 2,000 fans were in attendance.
Rookie right tackle Mike McGlinchey, the No. 9 overall pick, set the bar high for future rookies who will be required to provide the service. McGlinchey whipped the crowd into a frenzy as the team was going through stretching exercises.
“He surprised me,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said.
