SANTA CLARA — Running back Matt Breida’s breakout season is on hold, at least for this week when the 49ers host the Denver Broncos.
“Same ankle, different sprain,” coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday, a day after Breida was limited to 10 snaps in a 43-16 loss at Seattle.
Thus, in a season in which they’ve scoured their depth chart for next-men-up, the 49ers likely will rely on Jeff Wilson Jr., an undrafted rookie that got called up from the practice squad for the past two games.
