Two days after he missed practice because he was reportedly mulling retirement, offensive lineman Anthony Davis was active for the season opener against the Rams on Monday night and was a backup.
Davis, 26, met with team officials after he was absent for practice Saturday and was swayed to stay with the team. He stepped away from the NFL last year to let his “brain and body” heal.
In August, head coach Chip Kelly said Davis was asked to move from right tackle to right guard, a position he hadn’t played since his freshman season at Rutgers in 2007.
