On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of former South Carolina State University defensive back Alex Brown to a three-year deal, while the team waived defensive lineman Damontre Brown to open up a roster spot.
Brown, who went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, came out of college as a senior and must have impressed the Niners brass enough after participating in the team’s rookie minicamp earlier this spring.
Moves like this are fairly common this time of year, as teams look to shuffle the back end of their 90-man offseason rosters.
