Week one of the NFL preseason is in the books, and the 49ers fell to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday by a score of 17-13. Yes, preseason ultimately doesn’t matter, but, my goodness, it is just good to speak about an actual football game in any capacity. Most of the 49ers starters, including Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and others, didn’t play. Saturday’s game was vital for roster battles and the potential for players to make a case for more playing time.
Here are three takeaways from Saturday’s preseason opener:
Dominick Puni plays 25 snaps
Chris Foerster pushed for Puni to get extended playing time on Saturday, and the 49ers listened, leaving Puni out there for 25 snaps (11 run-blocking & 14 pass-blocking snaps).
