Alexander is the 49th ranked overall prospect on NFL Draft Scout’s big board, and their second overall offensive guard. Guard is a big need for the 49ers – Alex Boone is set to leave via free agency, Andrew Tiller was serviceable, and Jordan Devey was a total bust who needs to be sent packing.
Alexander, at 6-6 and 329 pounds, has great size for the position. However, in a Chip Kelly offensive system, with it’s tempo and speed, you need an athlete who can move well and can block different types of defenders. Alexander’s performance in drills at the combine left a lot to be desired in this area.
