The San Francisco 49ers (6-4) travel to New Orleans to take on Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Last week the Saints made an example of the Dallas Cowboys as they blew them them out in New Orleans. Proving once again that it is very tough to go into the Superdome and come away with a win.
If the Niners lose they will drop to 6-5 with the Saints improving to 8-2. San Francisco is already three games back of the NFC West leading Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks face the Minnesota Vikings this week in a game that they should easily win. That would make the Niners deficit even deeper in the NFC West. Down four games in their division with only six weeks left they will have to start thinking about a wild card spot.
Looking at the NFC non-division leaders the Carolina Panthers are 6-3; Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals are 5-4 with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles both checking in at 5-5. If any of those five win teams come away with a win that would put them at six and tied with the 49ers in the win column. If the Panthers win against the Patriots on Monday Night that would put them up to seven wins and in the driver seat for a wild card bid.
You always hear about a "must-win" game, this game is truly a must-win for Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers. A win would keep them in the hunt in the NFC, and their own division. For the Niners to win they need to control the clock and execute on both sides of the ball for 48 minutes against a very lethal New Orleans Saints team.
