The San Francisco 49ers are still scheduling interviews for their vacant head coaching position, but there's still a ton of other candidates to parse through as we present to you our 49ers Coaching Rumors Roundup for January 7th.
San Francisco targeting Hue Jackson?
While the 49ers have cast a wide net in their coaching search and former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is the betting favorite to land the job, San Francisco seems to be targeting Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. The Niners are pursuing an offensive-minded coach to fix an offense that ranked dead last in the league last season, and Jackson is a guy that makes the most sense due to his success in Cincinnati.
He also was the head coach of the Raiders in 2011, leading them to an 8-8 record before being fired due to an ownership change.
49ers haven't heard back in request to interview Koetter
San Francisco is one of several teams that have reached out to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an attempt to interview offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, but the Bucs haven't responded to anyone's requests. Tampa fired head coach Lovie Smith on Wednesday, and Koetter is thought to be a leading candidate to take over their head coaching job.
Shaw Doesn't Want 49ers Job
The 49ers reportedly had interest in Stanford head coach David Shaw, but that interest isn't mutual. The Mercury News reports Shaw has no interest in the 49ers' gig.
