The San Francisco 49ers appear set to release wide receiver Stevie Johnson in order to clear $5.5 million in cap room, per a report by NBC's Dianna Marie Russini:
Per sources, 49ers are expected to release Stevie Johnson. This will save 5.5 million of cap room. #49ers

San Francisco was reportedly exploring the option of a pay cut for Johnson, but it seems they are ready to take the more extreme route and cut ties with Johnson altogether. At least, that's the impression one gets from this Instragram post from Stevie Johnson's personal account:

In his first and perhaps final year with the 49ers, Johnson posted his lost catch (35) and yardage totals (435) since his 2nd year in the league (2009).
