The San Francisco 49ers are in need of roster slots with several players expected to return in the near future. San Francisco could very well create that space prior to Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
According to ESPN.com's Adam Schefter, "come Tuesday's trade deadline, the 49ers will be interested in dealing a defensive player or two on the back end of their roster to get back a late-round pick and, more important, a roster spot or two, the sources said."
Linebacker Aldon Smith is slated to return to the roster as early as this week. In addition, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, linebacker NaVorro Bowman, and running back Marcus Lattimore could all find they way back onto the team's 53-man squad before the end of November.
Trading away some of their defensive depth before the deadline could creates the roster spots needed for these players' returns while giving the 49ers assets to play with in future drafts.
Stay tuned.
