49ers rumors have been busy in the first thirty hours or so of the 2014 NFL free agency period. If speculation proves correct, they may get a lot busier very soon.
ESPN.com NFC West analyst Bill Williamson posits that the San Francisco 49ers could be in the market for big-name wide receivers both currently on the free agent market and otherwise.
Williamson believes that the receiver left who could be "signed at a reasonable price include Hakeem Nicks, James Jones, Santonio Holmes, Sidney Rice and Emmanuel Sanders. Then there’s the possibility Steve Smith could soon be free."
As Williamson states in his post, the 49ers have expressed interest in both Dexter McCluster (signed with Titans) and ex-Minnesota Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson.
Hakeem Nicks is a name that has been tossed around in rumors involving the Oakland Raiders--however, if the saturated market for receivers starts lowering asking prices, the San Francisco 49ers may be able to swoop in and snag the 26-year-old receiver.
As of now, this is all merely speculation for 49ers fans to ponder over. However, don't be surprised if one of the aforementioned names lands in red, white, and gold very soon.
