The San Francisco 49ers have several starters from the 2014 NFL season that they'll have to discuss about bringing back before or after the 2015 free agency period starts on March 10th.
One free-agent player near and dear to many Niners fans hearts who may be on his way out is running back Frank Gore. As USA Today's Lorenzo Reyes sees it, young options behind Gore on the depth chart could make the 49ers stalwart "expendable" going forward:
WR Michael Crabtree, RB Frank Gore and LG Mike Iupati are all free agents who have been instrumental to the Niners' success in the past few seasons. Gore is aging, and San Francisco has a couple of talented replacements in Carlos Hyde and Kendall Hunter, so the team's all-time leading rusher may be expendable.
If Gore makes it to the free market as many expect, he'll instantly become one of the top backs in a potentially loaded 2015 crop when teams start inquiring next month.
