In 49ers news today, what amounted to a shocking and disturbing start to the day for San Francisco 49ers fans may be a case of incomplete reporting.
Per Michael David Smith of NBC Sports Network's Pro Football Talk, a report filed on TMZ.com which alleges that 49ers starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick is under investigation for possible sexual assault may not actually be telling the whole story:
"Miami Police spokesman Rene Pimental told the San Jose Mercury News that TMZ, which initially broke the story of Kaepernick being a subject of a police investigation, “took the report out of context.”'
The San Jose Mercury News clarified this in their report, stating “There’s no evidence of a crime or a sexual assault,”
“This report is simply an incident report taken at the woman’s request.”
According to a law enforcement report, the woman in question was "hanging out" with Kaepernick in a Miami-area hotel, along with San Francisco 49ers receiver Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette. As Pro Football Talk notes, "she says that after drinking with them she went to bed, and the next thing she knew she was waking up in a hospital. That incident report lists Kaepernick, Patton and Lockette as suspects, but the police say that doesn’t mean a crime was committed."
The Special Victims Unit of the Miami Police Department specializes in more than just sex crimes -- leaving us just as in the dark on the actuality of this situation as we were when TMZ.com's report first hit the internet earlier today.
