Sunday’s 27-7 loss to Indianapolis was bad enough on its own, but All-Pro 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis leaving in the third quarter with a groin injury made a rough day even worse. Willis stayed out for the rest of the game, and Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is reporting that Willis will not play Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams.
The All-Pro MLB was chasing Colts receiver Reggie Wayne on a play late in the third, but pulled up short and limped off the field. While Willis has no chance of playing Thursday, the injury isn’t expected to keep him out longer than a week.
Linebacker Navarro Bowman filled in for Willis after his injury, but was unable to make an impact on the game. Following the loss, the 49ers fell under .500 for the first time in Jim Harbaugh's tenure as head coach.
