The San Francisco 49ers have already made a flurry of moves this offseason, including a good number of cuts. We all know that cuts are a major part of the NFL preseason, and as we approach the start of training camp, which notable 49ers may be the best to be cut? Here are the three most likely:
1) LB Reuben Foster
Foster is an incredible player, was one of the best rookies in the league last season, and is someone the 49ers were expecting to anchor their defense for the next decade. However, a potential domestic violence conviction could end his career with the team. General manager John Lynch said the Foster would be kicked off the team if he is found guilty, and while the woman recanted her claims, police may still pursue the charges.
This murky situation will leave his status with the team up in the air until the legal matter gets resolved.
2) WR Aldrick Robinson
Robinson is on the books for $2.2 million next season and is entering his final year of the deal, making him a likely candidate to get cut. The 29-year-old has been a career journeyman and only caught 19 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns last year. While the 49ers need weapons, they may decide that $2.2 million would be better used elsewhere.
3) OG Jonathan Cooper
Cooper will compete for a starting job in camp after starting a career-high 13 games for the Cowboys last season, but if he doesn't win a starting job, there's a chance San Francisco cuts him. He's scheduled to be the third highest-paid offensive lineman for the 49ers this season, which isn't backup money. Cooper's performance in camp will seal his fate one way or the other.
