The San Francisco 49ers have never been shy about making a splash on draft day via a trade or draft pick, so while we’re not necessarily expecting any of these trades to happen, we wouldn’t be surprised. Here are 3 draft day trades the 49ers could make when the 2015 NFL Draft rolls around:
1) Trade 1st-round pick (#15) and LB Ahmad Brooks to Bears for 1st round pick (#7) in 2015
San Francisco signed Torrey Smith in hopes that he could be their No. 1 receiver, but he's shown he's better off as the No. 2 option. Alabama's Amari Cooper and West Virginia's Kevin White both project as surefire No. 1 wideouts, and the 49ers could trade into the top 10 in order to draft one of them. Chicago really needs to add pass rushing help, and Brooks would give them that while filling a positional need.
2) Trade 1st-round pick (#15) to Panthers for 1st (#25) & 4th (#124) round picks in 2015
Carolina desperately needs to upgrade their offensive line and receiving core, and they could be looking to move up a couple of spots to grab a guy at either position they really like. San Francisco has several needs they want to address, so getting an extra pick would be great for them. Plus, the 49ers would still be able to get a top pass rusher in the first round - probably Kentucky's Bud Dupree - by making this move.
3) Trade 2nd-round pick (#46) and 5th-round pick (#151) to Cardinals for 1st-round pick (#24) in 2015
San Francisco could trade for more picks, or they could trade their later picks to get as many as they can at the top of the draft. Arizona doesn't have many needs other than quarterback, and they're willing to wait until the second round to draft one. This would give the 49ers the opportunity to bring in two impact players, which they really need given how much production they lost in free agency. Look for them to target Florida State DT Eddie Goldman if they make this move or one similar to it.
