Young righty holds powerful Astros to 1 ER over 5 frames

SAN DIEGO -- Luis Perdomo's first start ended with questions surrounding his status in the Padres' rotation. The young right-hander responded in a big way against the defending champs on Friday night.

Perdomo grinded his way to five innings of one-run ball on Friday against the Astros. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out four and making excellent use of his slider.

His most impressive inning may have been his last. The Padres had taken a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on Jose Pirela's two-run double, but the Astros sent the heart of their order to the plate in the bottom of the frame.
