Yates escapes ninth-inning scare to secure Padres victory over Reds

The Padres escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to secure a 3-2 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati Monday night.

Eric Lauer got the start for the Friars and allowed just one run, albeit over only four innings. Luis Perdomo followed with two scoreless frames; Trey Wingenter and Craig Stammen following with scoreless innings of their own.

Kirby Yates picked up his 36th save of the season in the ninth, but it certainly didn’t come easy. He allowed an RBI single to Josh VanMeter that brought the Reds within one, then loaded the bases by plunking Jose Iglesias.
