While that likely won’t be the case this time – Ian Kennedy and Joaquin Benoit were reportedly claimed and pulled back on Tuesday – moving Will Venable off the Padres’ roster was decidedly a move for the future, a much needed one too considering how quickly the rookie general manager burned through the farm system’s depth just eight months ago.
