Maybe it’s an exaggeration to say A.J. Preller is all-in on this 60-game season based solely on moving the tantalizing Franchy Cordero for left-hander Tim Hill.
The former is a physical specimen with jaw-dropping power potential. But for all the enormous upside of the 25-year-old Cordero, he has only 273 big-league plate appearances over his last three big league seasons.
He’s missed time to elbow sprains, quad strains and an abductor injury. With Tommy Pham, Trent Grisham and Wil Myers the likely outfield trio in San Diego, Cordero would have been hard-pressed to work himself into regular at-bats.
