SAN DIEGO -- The Padres placed struggling right-hander Jered Weaver on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with left hip inflammation and recalled right-hander Jose Valdez from Triple-A El Paso.
Weaver allowed seven runs in two-thirds of an inning in Friday's 10-1 loss to the D-backs, the shortest non-injury outing of his career. The 34-year-old veteran has a 7.44 ERA and leads the National League with 16 home runs allowed.
"He's had left hip inflammation for some time," Padres manager Andy Green said. "He's been battling and hasn't been at full health, and it's something for the last couple years he's battled.
