Wallace, Jankowski help Padres end Cubs' streak

CHICAGO — Brett Wallace atoned for two throwing errors Wednesday with one swing of the bat.

In the first game of a doubleheader at Wrigley Field, Wallace, who has been pressed into starting duty by injuries in the Padres' infield, made one wayward throw in the bottom of the fifth, then another in the bottom of the sixth. Fortunately for San Diego, it escaped both innings without damage.

In the top of the seventh, the third baseman cracked a three-run homer that proved decisive in a 7-4 victory over Chicago. The Padres (14-20) ended their losing streak at four, and the Cubs (25-7) saw their winning streak ended at eight.
