SAN DIEGO -- Christian Villanueva left no doubt as to whether he'd extend his hitting streak Saturday night.
The Padres third baseman worked an excellent eight-pitch at-bat in the bottom of the first inning against Mets starter Jason Vargas. On the eighth offering, Villanueva mashed a long home run into the left-center-field bullpen.
The two-run blast gave Villanueva an 11-game hitting streak, the longest by a rookie this season and the longest by a Padres rookie since Jesus Guzman in 2011. It left his bat at 108 mph and traveled a projected 417 feet.
