Urena, Charles suspended for positive PED tests

A Padres minor league All-Star and a former outfielder in the organization are among three players suspended for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, the commissioner’s office announced Thursday.

Low Single-A Fort Wayne outfielder Jose Urena will miss the first 80 games of the season without pay, while free agent Henry Charles – who teamed with Urena last year at short-season Tri-City – will endure a 76-game suspension without pay as soon as he signed with a team. Both tested positive for metabolite of Nandrolone, which is in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The Padres released the 22-year-old Charles earlier this month, a source in the organization confirmed.
