ST. LOUIS -- The Padres reinstated outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. from the bereavement list before Monday night's game against St. Louis.
In a corresponding move, the club also placed backup first baseman Brett Wallace on the paternity list.
Wallace and his wife, Taylar, are expecting their first child as early as Monday.
Upton missed the Padres' three games against the Giants over the weekend, and he is set to begin his second half Monday night. He was in the starting lineup, leading off and playing center field.
Upton batted .262/.311/.454 during the first half with several highlight-reel plays, including three walk-off home runs, three robbed home runs and a straight steal of home.
