PHILADELPHIA —
Infielder Ty France will join the Padres Friday in Philadelphia, taking the roster spot of Fernando Tatis Jr.
The Padres will place their rookie shortstop on the 10-day injured list due to a back strain. Tatis, who leads the Padres in average (.317), on-base percentage (.379) and slugging percentage (.590), left Tuesday’s game against the Rays after experiencing discomfort during a sixth-inning at-bat. He was removed the next half-inning.
His absence is not expected to last much beyond the Aug. 24 date he is eligible to return.
This gives France another opportunity to play in the major leagues.
