On the injured list with a left middle finger strain, Jose Castillo does not know exactly when he’ll pick up a ball again. At some point this offseason, he’ll start his rehab in Peoria, Ariz., and shift to San Diego before returning to his home in Venezuela.
But not to pitch.
Even if his offseason plan called for more innings for Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League — and it doesn’t — Castillo is among the scores of players barred from offseason league action because of President Donald Trump’s sanctions against Venezuelan President Nicolas Madura’s socialist government.
