POWAY — Tickets are still available for Friday’s big “Music & Memories — Honoring a Hometown Hero,” a concert in support of a Tony Gwynn Memorial statute to be erected at Lake Poway.
Gwynn, who died in 2014, lived in Poway with his family for nearly 30 years. About $100,000 must be raised to pay for a memorial that city leaders say is befitting the local legend.
“... The rest of the world knew him as a Hall of Fame ballplayer,” Mayor Steve Vaus said. “But in Poway he was a neighbor, a friend, a family man and a guy who very quietly did a lot for the community.
