PEORIA, Ariz. —
The Chicago White Sox split-squad beat the Padres, 6-0, on Sunday at the Peoria Sports Complex. It was the Padres’ first shutout loss of the spring. They are 11-4.
Batter’s box: 1B Eric Hosmer, whose average launch angle of 2.1 degrees was the second worst in the majors among hitters with at least 100 balls in play, collected two groundball singles before dumping a fly ball in front of the left fielder for his third hit of the game. Hosmer cut his groundball rate from 60.4 percent in 2018 to 56 percent in 2019.
