LOS ANGELES — Either from the home dugout at Petco Park or via various electronic devices, Matt Thornton has watched nearly every pitch of every game the Padres have played this season. The lone exception was Friday night's 5-1 victory over the Dodgers. Thornton tuned into the radio broadcast as he drove from San Diego to Los Angeles.
Saturday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, Thornton threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session, his third since he suffered what he called a "freak injury." The veteran left-handed reliever officially went on the disabled list April 8 with left Achilles tendinitis, but he originally felt something while running during warm-ups April 4, opening day.
