The first weekend of spring training games has shown the future of the San Diego Padres looks bright. The franchise’s top two minor league prospects, Ethan Salas and Leodalis De Vries, confirmed that both are on track to becoming major leaguers. Each is 18 and poised to make a name for themselves before heading to their minor league destination.
Padres manager Mike Shildt did a terrific job creating an environment that allowed them to have a successful 2025 debut. The teenage phenoms displayed instincts to make the right plays as the game unfolded. Salas and De Vries looked comfortable playing against major-league talent.
