PEORIA, Ariz. —
Fernando Tatis Jr. is open to playing center field, should the Padres ever ask.
Tatis confirmed Wednesday what multiple people in the organization had said — that the subject had not been broached with the young shortstop.
“Not ever,” he said. “If they need me out there, I would go out there.”
Tatis added that he considered center field the shortstop of the outfield.
“They’re the two main positions,” he said.
Not five minutes later, Tatis took to the field during batting practice and shagged fly balls in right field.
