Submariner Eric Yardley made his big-league debut on Wednesday, three days after turning 29 years old. The moment was the culmination of a seven-year journey in pro ball that took him from the brink a career in teaching, to independent ball, to the Padres system as an undrafted free agent.
Union-Tribune: You’d just turned 29 a few days before you were called up Wednesday. You made your debut that day. Was it good to get it out of the way right away?
Yardley: Absolutely. I think if we had waited until (Friday) or (Saturday), you’re sitting on that anxiety.
