Padres Assistant General Manager Josh Stein will give the opening remarks Thursday when the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) stops in San Diego for its 49th national convention. In his sixth year in his current post, Stein grew up in San Diego and graduated from La Jolla High School. He joined the Padres when former GM Kevin Towers brought him on as an intern in the summer of 2003.
