Source: Brandon Maurer, Padres avoid arbitration with $1.9 million deal

The San Diego Padres have settled with Brandon Maurer in advance of salary arbitration at $1.9 million, a source told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Maurer made $526,400 last season and will reach free agency in 2020 at the earliest

The 26-year-old reliever posted a 4.52 ERA in 71 appearances last season, recording 72 strikeouts in 69 2/3 innings.

Maurer spent the first two seasons of his career with the Seattle Mariners, where he was also used as a starter. He was traded to the Padres in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith prior the 2015 season.
