SAN DIEGO -- Francisco Mejia wasted no time endearing himself to Padres fans at Petco Park. Playing in San Diego for the first time, Mejia put his unique skillset on full display during Friday night's 4-0 loss to Texas.
The 22-year-old backstop -- rated as MLB's top catching prospect -- showed off his otherworldy arm in the top of the first inning, when he nailed Delino DeShields on an attempted steal. Mejia worked a walk later in the frame, then swatted an opposite-field liner in the bottom of the sixth.
Otherwise, the Padres didn't muster a whole lot on offense.
