TORONTO — The Padres made a trio of roster moves before Wednesday's series finale at Rogers Centre, placing third baseman Yangervis Solarte on the family leave list and recalling utility player Alexi Amarista and left-hander Buddy Baumann from Triple-A El Paso. Those transactions gave San Diego a two-man bench and a nine-man bullpen, an atypical configuration born out of necessity.
After trading outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to the Blue Jays on Tuesday, the Padres had returned to a full 25-man roster, but Solarte's temporary departure and the obstacles presented by playing north of the border left them pitching-heavy.
