At one point this offseason I was sure Dylan Cease was getting traded. He isn’t coming back in free agency and was this year’s Juan Soto—an elite player entering his walk year that would create financial flexibility ($13.75 million) for the Padres if he were to be dealt.
All we were hearing is how the Padres don’t have much money. Rumors swirled involving the Orioles, Cubs and Red Sox. Jake Cronenworth, Robert Suarez and Luis Arraez’s name also came up in reports.
But in the past week or so, the Padres have agreed to deals with Nick Pivetta and Kyle Hart.
