Thursday’s extra-inning win gave the Padres a second consecutive series win to start this 60-game sprint. The bullpen is certainly a concern right now (more on that later), but the Padres are still off to their best start since 2009.
In fact, few teams are hotter right now than the Padres.
Their five wins are tied with the Dodgers (5-2) and Indians (5-2) for the most in the game, while their plus-18 run differential is second only to the Dodgers’ plus-20.
And to think, the Padres could be 7-0 if it wasn’t for that vaunted bullpen crumbling three times after the seventh inning.
