The fall from cloud nine — from roughly a mile high, apparently — hit with a thud this weekend as the Padres lost their first series of the season and in the process slipped from first in the NL West to third.
Not a big deal in a typical year (we’re conditioned to say it’s only one game or one series) but back-to-back losses in the manner in which they were delivered ought to at least raise an eyebrow because a 60-game season means the Padres don’t have a lot of time to work out those kinks.
The Dodgers, winners of the last seven division titles, are here Monday for the start of a three-game series.
