The San Diego Padres completely fell apart on Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks. At the time of this writing, the Padres are losing 16-5 with the game still going in the seventh inning.
Coming off an outing in which he gave up seven earned runs, Tyson Ross lasted just two innings, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits and two walks. Kazuhisa Makita failed to produce much better results in relief. Makita gave up seven more runs (five earned) on two walks and five hits (including two home runs).
While the pitching was bad and the offense was, once again, almost non-existent, there was one bright spot to emerge from the nuclear fallout that was Saturday night.
