The San Diego Padres have begun to earn a sliver of respect. This week, their sweep over the Cincinnati Reds at Petco Park propelled them out of last place in the National League West. They then played a very tight series against the NL Central leaders, the Milwaukee Brewers.
Most notable this week was the emergence of outfielder Franchy Cordero, who tore it up offensively all week. Many of the power rankings lists took notice, just one of several factors contributing to San Diego’s rise.
There is still a ton of work to be done, and the battle is still an uphill one for the Friars.
